The Rays ran smack into Kansas City's reigning AL Cy Young Award winner Thursday night and suffered a 3-2 loss that sent them back into a tie with the Yankees for the division lead with three games remaining.

Notes: James Shields (13-14, 5.04) pitches for the Rays tonight against Kansas City's Bruce Chen (11-7, 4.45) in the second game of this season ending four-game set....Tampa Bay's Dan Johnson collected his first stolen base in Thursday's second inning. Johnson had gone 365 games over five big league seasons without swiping a single bag. He was caught stealing once during his 2005 rookie season with the A's....The Rays tweaked their rotation for the final two games of the regular season, pushing Wade Davis, who had been tabbed for Saturday's game, to Sunday. The Rays had yet to announce who would replace Davis as Saturday's starter.

Gurode required 30 stitches and suffered blurry vision from the attack. The NFL suspended Haynesworth for 5 games without pay. This was the worst suspension for onfield behaviour to date.
2007 - Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh Penguins) played his first game as captain. He was the youngest player to be named a captain in the NHL.
