University of Minnesota Duluth Retains No. 1 Ranking in USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Minnesota Duluth retains the No. 1 ranking in this week's USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll. The Bulldogs accumulated 188 points and 17-of-19 first-place votes to claim the top spot.
Cornell University remains at No. 2 with 163 points, while Mercyhurst College stays at No. 3 with 160 points and one first-place vote. The University of Minnesota (128) collected one first-place vote and moves up two spots to No. 4 after defeating then-No. 7 Clarkson University twice over the weekend, while the University of Wisconsin (119) holds the No. 5 spot, having earned two victories over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
The University of North Dakota (40) makes its 2010-11 poll debut at No. 8 after splitting a pair of games with No. 6 Boston University, while the University of New Hampshire (38) is ranked No. 9 after topping the University of Connecticut.
Highlighting this weekend's games is a Top-10 Western Collegiate Hockey Association match-up between No. 1 University of Minnesota and No. 8 University of North Dakota.
NOTES: The WCHA leads all conferences with four ranked teams, while the Hockey East Association has three ranked teams and ECAC Hockey has two. No. 3 Mercyhurst College is the only College Hockey America team ranked ... A total of 14 teams received votes.
ABOUT THE POLL: The 14th annual USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women’s College Hockey Poll is conducted each week in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the four NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the AHCA and USA Hockey Magazine, the most widely distributed hockey magazine in the world.
