1960 - Elvis Presley was named the Best-Selling Male Artist at the first annual National Association of Recording Merchandisers Awards in Las Vegas.

1977 - Elvis Presley's single "Moody Blue" hit #6 in the U.K.

1996 - A revival of the 1970's musical "Elvis" opened in London. Timothy Whitnall played the 1960's Elvis and P.J. Proby played Elvis in the later years.

Then the bottom fell out, and the Orioles came away with a 4-1 win at Tropicana Field in front of a sellout crowd of 34,078.

LOS ANGELES -- The Giants have a scheduled off-day Monday in San Diego. The word "scheduled" should be emphasized.
Because at the current rate, manager Bruce Bochy might want to convene the ballclub for a review of the fundamentals that have eluded them in the season's first pair of games.
Another batch of errors, mental and physical, helped doom the Giants to a 4-3 loss Friday night to the Los Angeles Dodgers, whose three-run uprising in the sixth inning offset Brandon Belt's first Major League home run.

1986 - Paul Coffey (Edmonton Oilers) scored his 47th and 48th goals of the season. He broke Bobby Orr's NHL record for most goals by a defenseman. Orr had scored 46 goals in 1974-75.

1995 - The costliest strike in professional sports history ended when baseball owners agreed to let players play without a contract.

2003 - Alex Rodriguez (Texas Rangers) became the youngest player to hit 300 homeruns. He beat Jimmie Foxx's record by 79 days.
