1962 - Elvis Presley arrived in Hawaii to shoot portions of the movie "Girls! Girls! Girls!".

1965 - The Elvis Presley movie "Girl Happy" premiered. The movie opened in the U.S. on April 14, 1965.

1970 - Colonel Parker concluded a deal with MGM.


A brewery in New Zealand launched a Breakfast Beer today (Thursday, 7am in Auckland). What is a 'Breakfast Beer'? It's a dressed-up name for beer with cherry flavoring. Yawn.


ST. PETERSBURG -- Fans got a taste of what Jeremy Hellickson had to offer late last season, and that's why for much of Tuesday and all of Wednesday, the hype grew around the right-hander's debut.
He had big shoes to fill, having stepped into the hole vacated by Matt Garza's offseason trade to the Cubs.
He had a tall order, to try and deliver the Rays their first win of the season.
He had big expectations to live up to, after the flawless record he posted in his short time with the big club in 2010.
In the end, there was no win to show for it, but praise was still heaped upon the 23-year-old following the Rays' 5-1 loss to the Angels.

By the time the royal wedding gets here 10 billion people will be expected to watch. Never mind there are just under 7 billion of us on planet Earth. Last month we heard that somewhere around 1.5 billion people could be expected to watch or listen to at least part of the wedding live. Now that number has risen to 2 billion.

SAN DIEGO -- The National League West standings won't say so, but the Giants' pair of victories on their two-city season-opening road trip seemed to eclipse their four defeats.
They fell short in each of their losses by two runs or fewer, maintaining their typical competitiveness. Meanwhile, the Giants looked worthy of their status as reigning World Series champions in both of their wins, including Wednesday's 8-4 decision over the Padres.

1969 -In Toronto, John Lennon recorded "Give Peace a Chance." The song was his first solo single.

2000 - Michael Abram attended a hearing for his attempt to murder George Harrison and his wife Olivia on December 30, 1999. Abram was ordered to appear for trial, but a date was not set.

2004 - A High Court judge ruled that a trademark battle between Apple Computer Inc. and Apple Corps Ltd. should be heard in London. The suit was filed by the Beatles' owned company and claimed that Apple Computer had violated a 1991 agreement concerning the exlcusive "field of use" of the Apple mark.


Whatever happened to the sweetest face on the big screen, Meg Ryan? Well, she got plastic surgery and chose a few bad film roles. But now Meg's going to direct a feature film entitled Into the Beautiful, a comedy drama about a old friends reuniting.


Today in Sports History:

1955 - Fort Wayne beat Syracuse 74-71. It was the lowest scoring NBA Playoff game since the introduction of the 24-second shot clock.

1959 - Bob Cousy (Boston Celtics) achieved 19 assists, to tie an NBA Playoff record, in a game against Minneapolis.

1963 - At the age of 23, Jack Nicklaus became the youngest golfer to win the Green Jacket at the Masters Tournament.

1969 - U.S. President Nixon threw out the first ball of the 1969 major league baseball season.

1985 - In Goteborg, Sweden, China swept all of the world table tennis titles except for men's doubles.

2001 - The New Jersey Devils ended a streak of 10 consecutive road wins to tie the NHL record.
