Tampa, FL. -- Valtteri Filppula came to the Tampa Bay Lightning with something to prove in the 2013-14 campaign. The Bolts acquired Filppula as a free agent after a mediocre 2012-2013 season with the Detroit Red Wings. He has since proven those days are behind him.

1963 - The compilation album "Elvis' Golden Records Records Volume 3" hit #3 in the U.S.


A vaccine for hepatitis B was approved on this date in 1981. The vaccine had been developed at Merck Institute for Therapeutic Research.

1978 - 
The movie version of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" opened. The Bee Gees, Peter Frampton and Billy Preston made their acting debuts in the movie.

2004 - The Beatles collection "The Capitol Albums, Vol. 1" was released. The four-CD collection contained the band's 1964 American album releases. "Meet the Beatles," "The Beatles Second Album," "Something New," and "Beatles '65" were digitally prepared from Capitol's vintage album masters and presented in both the original stereo and mono mixes released back in 1964.

2010 - The Beatles' 13 remastered studio albums were released on iTunes. Other releases included "Past Masters," the "Red" and "Blue" collections, a special digital "Beatles Box Set."
