Phil Cohn Named Fifth Brendan Burke Intern
Will Begin Duties in Late August
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Phil Cohn (Westfield, N.J.) has been named as the fifth recipient of the Brendan Burke Internship it was announced today by USA Hockey.
Cohn will be based at USA Hockey's National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and begin his duties in late August. His responsibilities will include interface with the NTDP, national teams, international events, and player development camps. He will also gain exposure to USA Hockey's acclaimed American Development Model and Coaching Education Program.
Cohn spent the past five seasons (2009-14) with the Union College men's ice hockey program. During the Dutchmen's run to the 2014 NCAA Division I national championship, he worked as the hockey operations coordinator and was responsible for all aspects of team travel, managing video production and distribution, and assisting with on-ice practices. Prior to his stint as hockey operations coordinator, Cohn was a student manager and video coordinator with the program for four seasons (2009-13).
Cohn, who graduated from Union College in June 2013 with a degree in computer science, also worked in the school's sports information department as an intern during the 2012-13 season.
Established in April 2010, the Brendan Burke Internship is awarded annually to a recent college graduate who is pursuing a career in hockey operations. The internship was founded in memory of the late Brendan Burke, who served as a student assistant for the Miami University men's ice hockey team and was the son of Brian Burke, director of player personnel for the 2014 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team, general manager of the 2010 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team and current president of hockey operations for the NHL's Calgary Flames.
Brendan Burke passed away in an automobile accident on Feb. 5, 2010.

Its efforts focus not only on high-caliber participation on the ice, but creating well-rounded individuals off the ice.


U.S. Roster Set for Final Games of
2014 USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp
USA to Face Sweden, Finland & Czech Republic to Conclude Camp
LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- Twenty-seven of the 42 players in attendance at the 2014 USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp will remain to face the Czech Republic, Finland and Sweden later this week.

The players are auditioning for spots on the U.S. National Junior Team that will take part in the 2015 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship, Dec. 26, 2014-Jan. 5, 2015, in Montreal and Toronto, Canada.

"As a staff, we have been very pleased with the effort and competitiveness of the 42 players in camp," said Jim Johannson, USA Hockey's assistant executive director of hockey operations and the general manager of the 2015 U.S. National Junior Team. " The three remaining games this week provide an opportunity for additional assessment of the players that are staying. We will continue to evaluate the players released today throughout the fall.”

Ian McCoshen (Hudson, Wis./Boston College), who was a member of the 2014 U.S. National Junior Team, will no longer be participating in this week’s camp for precautionary reasons.

Among those staying are goaltender Thatcher Demko (San Diego, Calif./Boston College); defensemenWill Butcher (Sun Prairie, Wis./University of Denver) and Steve Santini (Mahopac, N.Y./Boston College); and forwards Jack Eichel (North Chelmsford, Mass./U.S. National Under-18 Team) andHudson Fasching (Burnsville, Minn./University of Minnesota), who were members of the 2014 U.S. National Junior Team that played in Malmo, Sweden.

The trimmed Team USA roster will play Sweden on Wednesday (Aug. 6), Finland on Thursday (Aug. 7) and Czech Republic on Saturday (Aug. 9). All games are being played at the Olympic Center's USA Rink.

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. - International competition continued today with the U.S. squads flipping oppenents. USA Blue lost Sweden in the matinee game, 6-2. USA White fell to Finland later in the day, 4-3. Sonny Milano (Massapequa, N.Y./U.S. National Under-18 Team) tallied a goal and two assists for USA White.

Sixty-Nine Players Invited to 2014 USA Hockey
Women's National Festival
Festival Held Aug. 12-16 in Lake Placid, New York, to Determine Rosters for Upcoming Events vs. Canada
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Hockey announced today the 69 players invited to the 2014 USA Hockey Women's National Festival, which will take place Aug. 12-16, in Lake Placid, New York.
The Festival will be used to select the 22-player rosters for a pair of series against Canada held simultaneously from Aug. 21-24 in Calgary, Alberta, at Canada Olympic Park. The U.S. entries will feature an under-18 team and 22-and-under team.
Highlighting the roster for the Festival are four members of the silver medal-winning 2014 U.S. Women's Olympic Ice Hockey Team, including Alex Carpenter (North Reading, Mass.), Kendall Coyne (Palos Heights, Ill.), Michelle Picard (Taunton, Mass.) and Lee Stecklein (Roseville, Minn.).
Ten members of the 2014 U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team -- Grace Bizal (Minnetonka, Minn.), Jincy Dunne (O'Fallon, Mo.), Rebecca Gilmore (Wayland, Mass.), Megan Keller(Farmington, Mich.), Lexie Laing (Marblehead, Mass.), Caitrin Lonergan (Roslindale, Mass.),Patricia Marshall (Thief River Falls, Minn.), Abby Roque (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.), Melissa Samoskevich (Sandy Hook, Conn.) and Sophie Skarzynski (Wilmette, Ill.) -- are also on the Festival roster.

NOTES: The 2014 USA Hockey Women's National Festival will take place at the Lake Placid Olympic Center and all practices and scrimmages will be open to the public. The two teams will practice in Lake Placid on Aug. 17-18 prior to heading to Canada.
