Wolves Sweep West Sound

Wenatchee, Wash. – The Wenatchee Wolves took on the West Sound Warriors this past weekend, winning 7-0 in Bremerton on Friday, December 18^th and 4-1 in Wenatchee on Sunday, December 20^th.

On Friday in Bremerton, the Wolves outshot West Sound 41-6 in rolling to the 7-0 victory. Seven different players scored goals, led by Johnny Schacher (Bakersfield, CA) and Otto Chao (Salt Lake City, UT), who tallied a goal and assist each. Bronson Moore (Kennewick, WA) made 6 saves for Wenatchee, which went 0-for-4 on the power play and 2-of-2 on the penalty kill.

On Sunday in Wenatchee, the Wolves topped the Warriors 4-1. Thomas Hendry (Salt Lake City, UT) scored twice, while Griffin Wiencek (Sherwood, OR) added a goal and an assist. Max Flynn (Wenatchee, WA) had 15 saves for Wenatchee, which went 0-for-2 on the power play and 1-of-1 on the penalty kill. “I thought we had a strong first half to the season.” said Wenatchee Wolves Head Coach Ryan McKelvie. “With a heavy travel and game schedule, the break should be good for our guys. We will look to come back strong in January and continue to build on our game every day.”

Wenatchee is now 23-1-0 in the NPHL this season. Their next action will be in the final NAPHL showcase of the season in Troy, Michigan January 7^th through the 10^th. The next NPHL action is set for Saturday and Sunday, January 17^th and 18^th, at home against Bellingham.

WENATCHEE WOLVES NPHL HOCKEY

Chiefs Edge Wild

Wenatchee, WA. – A late goal proved to be the difference Saturday night in a game that had everything for the 3,233 fans in attendance, as the Chilliwack Chiefs held on to first place in the Mainland Division with a 3-2 win over the Wenatchee Wild at the Town Toyota Center.

Chilliwack led 1-0 after one, thanks to an unassisted goal by Connor McCarthy at 5:50 that put the Chiefs in the lead.

In the second, Chilliwack would stretch the lead on a goal by Darien Craighead, assisted by Jordan Kawaguchi at 2:43, giving the visitors a 2-0 advantage. The Wild  would slice in half about 9 minutes later, as Brendan Harris (Las Vegas, NV) took a stretch pass from Konsta Jaske (Samammish, WA) and slipped home a goal in tight to finish off a breakaway. Logan Milliken (Canmore, AB) drew the second assist on the goal coming at 11:42, cutting the Chiefs lead to 2-1.

In the third, Charlie Combs (St. Louis, MO) fired home a wrister from the right circle, bringing Wenatchee into a 2-2 tie. Blake Christensen (Lauderhill, FL) and Bryan Yoon (Parker, CO) assisted, squaring the game and setting the stage for a big finish. Unfortunately for the Wild, it wasn’t the finish they hoped for. Kohen Olischefski scored on a sharp angle shot from the right side at 19:04, assisted by Kawaguchi and Craighead and Chilliwack would hold on for the 3-2 win.

Wenatchee outshot the Chiefs 37-22 on the night. Chase Perry (Andover, MN) made 19 saves for the Wild, while Aiden Pelino had 35 saves for Chilliwack. Wenatchee went 0-for-4 on the power play and 3-of-3 on the penalty kill. “You never like to lose a game like that,” said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach/General Manager Bliss Littler. “but I thought both teams played very hard. I thought second and third period we were much better than we were in the first but I think we found a rival. It definitely appears we found a rival. Both teams played exceptionally hard.”

With the loss, the Wild slips to 21-10-3-2 on the season, the Chiefs are now 23-7-1-3. Wenatchee hosts Chilliwack at the Town Toyota Center to start the 2016 portion of their schedule on Saturday, January 2^nd and Sunday, January 3rd, 7:05pm both nights.

Wild Drop Chiefs

Wenatchee, WA. – The Wenatchee Wild returned home Friday night and defeated the Chilliwack Chiefs 4-2, in front of 3,241 at the Town Toyota Center, climbing to with one point of first-place in the process.

Chilliwack opened the scoring on a Vimal Sukumaran goal, assisted by Kale Kane and Jesse Lansdell at 8:33, putting the Chiefs on top, 1-0. Late in the period, August Von Ungern (Boise, ID) tied it up for the Wild with a backhander high to the stick side, off assists from Austin Chavez (Corona, CA) and Joe Drabin (Rochester, NY) at 17:02, tying the game 1-1 after one.

In the second, Chilliwack would regain the lead early, thanks to a goal by Jordan Kawaguchi, from Darien Craighead and Kohen Olischefski at 1:45, putting the Chiefs back on top, 2-1. Wenatchee would take over from there with three straight goals. Blake Christensen (Lauderhill, FL) scored on a deflection, assisted by Matt Baker (Midhurst, ON) and Brendan Harris (Las Vegas, NV) at 8:09. The power play goal tied the game 2-2. Then, not quite four minutes later, Dakota Raabe (St. Louis, MO) would cross in front of the net and tuck home a backhander. Mike Coyne (Buffalo, NY) assisted at 11:45, putting the Wild on top, 3-2. The scoring continued 64 seconds later, as Daniel Nachbaur (Seattle, WA) slammed home a rebound from the left circle. Kyle Stephan (Barrie, ON) and Harris assisted at 12:49, giving Wenatchee a 4-2 lead.

Neither team would score in the third period and the Wild would go on and win the game 4-2.

Wenatchee outshot Chilliwack 36-27 on the night. Chase Perry (Andover, MN) made 25 saves for the Wild, while Aiden Pelino had 32 saves for the Chiefs. Wenatchee went 1-for-6 on the power play and 2-of-2 on the penalty kill. “I thought the second and third period, we played very well.” said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach/General Manager Bliss Littler. “First period we were a little tentative. Chase Perry made some huge saves, especially at the end of the first period. I expect Chilliwack’s A game tomorrow night and excited to see where we’re at.”

With the win, the Wild improves to 21-9-3-2 on the season, Chilliwack is now 22-7-1-3. Wenatchee closes out their pre-Christmas schedule with another game against the Chiefs on Saturday, December 19^th, 7:05pm at the Town Toyota Center.

Wolves Go 2-1 In NPHL Play

Wenatchee, Wash. – The Wenatchee Wolves went 2-1 this past week in NPHL play, dropping a 2-1 decision at Eugene on Thursday, December 10^th, winning at Tri-Cities 7-1 on Friday, December 11^th, then winning at home over Tri-Cities 11-0 on Saturday, December 12th.

On Thursday, the Wolves suffered their first NPHL loss of the season, 2-1 to the Generals. Tom Ignatovich (Seattle, WA) scored for Wenatchee, while Max Flynn (Wenatchee, WA) made 24 saves. The Wolves went 0-for-4 on the power play and 4-of-4 on the penalty kill.

On Friday, Wenatchee skated to a 7-1 win over the Outlaws in Kennewick. Griffin Weincek (Sherwood, OR) led the way with 3 goals and an assist, Richie Stickle (Healy, AK) added 2 goals and an assist, while Thomas Hendry (Salt Lake City, UT) chipped in 3 assists. Bronson Moore (Kennewick, WA) made 16 saves for the Wolves, who went 2-for-4 on the power play and 2-of-2 on the penalty kill.

On Saturday in Wenatchee, the Wolves rolled over Tri-Cities 11-0. Weincek and Coleton Booth (Delta, BC) each scored 3 goals, Jack Newhouse (Anchorage, AK) scored twice, and Stickle and Otto Chao (Salt Lake City, UT) each added 3 assists. Flynn had 18 saves. “This weekend was the end of the longest stretch of games we will have this season, with 11 games in 16 days with substantial travel.” said Wenatchee Wolves Head Coach Ryan McKelvie. “Overall, I thought we played hard and had high energy all weekend, which says a lot about the character we have in the locker room. It was a lot of hockey but hopefully this stretch of games will prepare our players to handle high game and travel volume if they are able to advance to the higher levels of the game.”

Wenatchee is now 21-1-0 on the season. Their next action in the NPHL is against West Sound on the road in Bremerton on Friday, December 18^th, then playing West Sound at the Town Toyota Center on Sunday, December 20^th, beginning at 5:35pm.

Wild Blanks Victoria To Close Out Trip

Victoria, BC. – The Wenatchee Wild ended their three-game weekend road swing on a high note, whitewashing the Victoria Grizzlies 2-0 at The Q Centre in Victoria.

August Von Ungern (Boise, ID) opened the scoring on a turn-around shot from the right circle. Tyler Rockwell (San Jose, CA) assisted at 2:11, putting the Wild up 1-0 after one.

In the second, Von Ungern scored again on a rebound in tight, staking Wenatchee to a 2-0 lead. Troy Conzo (Nesconset, NY) and Joe Drabin (Rochester, NY) assisted on the goal at 13:46 of the second.

The Wild would control the play in the third, outshooting Victoria 9-3 on their way to the 2-0 win.

Wenatchee outshot the Grizzlies 32-22 on the night. Chase Perry (Andover, MN) made 22 saves for his fourth shutout of the season for the Wild, while Matthew Galajda had 30 saves for Victoria. Wenatchee went 0-for-2 on the power play and 1-of-1 on the penalty kill. “With our third game of the trip, their first game of the weekend, I thought we competed pretty hard.” said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach/General Manager Bliss Littler. “We had some chances to open the game up a little bit, we weren’t able to convert. They (Victoria) had some great chances and Chase Perry, he showed the veteran goaltender that he is.”

With the win, the Wild improves to 20-9-3-2 on the season, the Grizzlies are now 13-18-0-4. Wenatchee closes out their pre-Christmas schedule with a pair of home games against the Chilliwack Chiefs on Friday and Saturday, December 18^th and 19^th.

Duncan, BC. – The Wenatchee Wild and Cowichan Valley Capitals thrilled the crowd with some exciting action, battling through double-overtime Friday night, before settling for a 2-2 tie at the Island Savings Centre.

After a scoreless first period in which the teams combined for 29 shots on goal, Mike Coyne (Buffalo, NY) would give Wenatchee the lead with a shot from the left circle. Tyler Rockwell (San Jose, CA) assisted on the power play goal at 3:02, giving the Wild a 1-0 lead, which would last until early in the third.

In the third, Cowichan Valley’s Luke Santerno scored on the power play from Mitch Meek and Chris Harpur at 1:37, tying the game 1-1. Then, late in the period, Wenatchee would regain the lead. Joe Drabin (Rochester, NY) scored on a turn-around shot from the slot. The unassisted goal, coming at 15:17, put the Wild back on top, 2-1. However, the Capitals would strike back quickly, as Adam Osczewski scored unassisted at 16:17, tying the game 2-2.

In the first overtime, Wenatchee outshot Cowichan Valley 7-1, but couldn’t find the back of the net. Then, in the second overtime, featuring 3-on-3 play, the two teams flew up and down the ice, but both teams were denied in their search for the winning goal and the game ended in a 2-all tie.

The Wild outshot the Capitals 49-32 on the night. Garrett Nieto (Yorba Linda, CA) made 30 saves for Wenatchee, while Storm Phaneuf had 47 saves for Cowichan Valley. The Wild went 1-for-4 on the power play and 3-of-4 on the penalty kill. “I thought we played very well.” said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach/General Manager Bliss Littler. “Definitely deserved both points tonight, but sometimes little mistakes come back and haunt you. No doubt we had the better of the chances tonight. It’s unfortunate we didn’t get both points.”

With the tie, Wenatchee moves to 19-9-3-2 on the season, the Capitals are now 16-11-2-3. The Wild wraps up their road swing on the Victoria Grizzlies on Saturday, December 12^th. Wenatchee will then close out their pre-Christmas schedule with a pair of home games against the Chilliwack Chiefs on Friday and Saturday, December 18^th and 19^th.

Wild Continues Road Swing With Win At Coquitlam

Coquitlam, BC. – The Wenatchee Wild were out on the road again Wednesday night and came from behind after one to beat the Coquitlam Express 6-3, at Poirer Sports and Leisure Centre in Coquitlam.

Wenatchee would take the lead on an Austin Chavez (Corona, CA) roofed a backhander off a steal for an unassisted goal, scored at 5:36, giving the Wild a 1-0 lead. Coquitlam would then score twice to take the lead. Matt Michie scored from Tayler Green and Lawson Fenton at 14:34, then Jackson Cressey scored an unassisted goal at 18:48, putting the Express up 2-1 after one.

A Bryan Yoon (Parker, CO) point shot, off a feed from Mike Coyne (Buffalo, NY) found its way home 25 seconds into the second period, tying the game 2-2. Coquitlam would regain the lead on a Colton Kerfoot goal, assisted by Cressey and Jarrell Pinchuk at 4:22, putting the Express up 3-2. Wenatchee would then take control of the game. Blake Christensen (Lauderhill, FL) scored from Charlie Combs (St. Louis, MO) and Chase Perry (Andover, MN) at 7:18, tying the game 3-3. Then, Combs would score what proved to be the game-winner at 17:17, assisted by Brendan Harris (Las Vegas, NV) at 17:17, the power play goal putting the Wild up 4-3 after two.

In the third, Daniel Nachbaur (Seattle, WA) flew through the right circle and fired home a backhander unassisted at 8:20, giving Wenatchee a 5-3 lead. Then, with Coquitlam attempting to pull their goaltender for an extra attacker, Combs would fire the puck from center into a wide-open net. The unassisted goal at 19:17, gave the Wild the 6-3 win.

Wenatchee outshot the Express 31-19 on the night. Perry made 16 stops for the Wild, while Fenton had 25 saves for Coquitlam. Wenatchee went 1-for-6 on the power play with a shorthanded goal against and 4-of-4 on the penalty kill. “We had our moments where I thought we were pretty good tonight.” said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach/General Manager Bliss Littler. “Again, we have some areas to tidy up before we get to the island against Cowichan on Friday that we need to tidy up. Nice to score some goals in the end and anytime you win on the road everybody needs to be happy.”

With the win, the Wild improve to 19-9-2-2 on the season, moving back into a first place tie with Chilliwack in the Mainland Division. The Express falls to 12-15-1-4. Wenatchee continues their road swing this coming Friday, December 11^th at the Cowichan Valley Capitals, then at the Victoria Grizzlies on Saturday, December 12^th. The Wild will then close out their pre-Christmas schedule with a pair of home games against the Chilliwack Chiefs on Friday and Saturday, December 18^th and 19^th.

Wolves Skate At NAPHL Showcase

Wenatchee, Wash. – The Wenatchee Wolves went 2-3 at the NAPHL Showcase this past weekend at the Schwan’s Super Rink in Blaine, Minnesota.

On Friday, December 4^th, the Wolves lost to the Green Bay Junior Gamblers, 3-2 in a shootout. Hunter Alden (Walla Walla, WA) and Hayden Givens (Portland, OR) scored the goals, Bronson Moore (Kennewick, WA) had 29 saves. Wenatchee went 1-for-7 on the power play and 3-of-3 on the penalty kill.

On Saturday, December 5^th, the Wolves dropped a 3-1 decision to the California Titans. Jonathan Banovetz (Eagle River, AK) scored a power play goal for Wenatchee, while Max Flynn (Wenatchee, WA) made 23 saves. The Wolves were 1-for-5 on the power play and 1-of-1 on the penalty kill.

Later on Saturday, Wenatchee lost to the Madison Capitols 4-0. Moore stopped 15 shots for the Wolves, who were 0-for-6 on the power play and 3-of-3 on the penalty kill.

Wenatchee bounced back and grabbed a 3-0 win over the San Diego Jr. Gulls on Sunday, December 6th. Tom Ignatovich (Seattle, WA) scored twice and Givens once, Hunter Hegdahl (Brookings, SD) added two assists. Flynn had 16 saves for the Wolves, who went 0-for-7 on the power play and 1-of-1 on the penalty kill.

On Monday, December 7^th, Wenatchee beat the Arizona Bobcats 3-1. Thomas Hendry (Salt Lake City, UT), Givens and Will Connors (Richland, WA) scored the goals, Moore made 23 saves. The Wolves were 0-for-5 on the power play and 1-of-2 on the penalty kill.

“Our play got stronger throughout the weekend and we finished with two strong performances.” said Wenatchee Wolves Head Coach Ryan McKelvie. “Goal-scoring has been an area of focus and we were able to score 3 goals in each of our final games. Overall, happy with our effort and think we are getting better every week, which has been the goal all year.”

Wenatchee now returns to NPHL action, playing at Eugene on Thursday, December 10th, then at Tri-Cities on Friday, December 11^th, before hosting Tri-Cities on Saturday, December 12^th at 7:35.

Wild Loses At Trail

Trail, BC. – The Wenatchee Wild hit the road Saturday night and dropped a 4-2 decision to the Trail Smoke Eaters at Cominco Arena in Trail.

Wenatchee would take the lead on a Blake Christensen (Lauderhill, FL) power play goal, assisted by Brendan Harris (Las Vegas, NV) and August Von Ungern (Boise, ID) at 16:06, giving the Wild a 1-0 lead after one.

Trail would take the lead with a pair of second period goals. The first came off the stick of Ross Armour. Nii Noh Tetteh and Cooper Sande assisted at 2:30, tying the game 1-1. The Smoke Eaters would then jump on top thanks to a Kyle Star marker. The assists went to Harlan Orr and Spencer McLean at 11:56, putting Trail up 2-1 after two.

In the third, Christensen scored again, assisted by Harris and Aaron Murray (Chino, CA), tying the game for Wenatchee at 2-2. However, the Smokies would score twice to take the game. The first was scored by Cooper Leitch from Ryan Swanson at 17:00, then Kale Howarth scored into an empty net from Jake Kauppila at 19:44, allowing Trail to skate away with the 4-2 win.

The Wild outshot the Smoke Eaters 31-24 on the night. Chase Perry (Andover, MN) made 20 stops for Wenatchee, while Bailey Mac Burnie had 29 saves for Trail. The Wild went 1-for-6 on the power play and 2-of-2 on the penalty kill. “For the most part, we thought we played very well.” said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach/General Manager Bliss Littler. “We gave ourselves a chance, disappointing after getting to 2-2 that we didn’t make them work overly hard for their third goal. That was a bit frustrating, but overall I thought we had a pretty good effort.”

With the win, the Smoke Eaters improve to 13-17-0-0 on the season, Wenatchee falls to 18-9-2-2. The Wild continues their road swing this coming Wednesday night, December 9th at Coquitlam against the Express at 7:00pm PST. Wenatchee will then play at Cowichan Valley on Friday, December 11^th and at Victoria on Saturday, December 12^th. The Wild will then close out their pre-Christmas schedule with a pair of home games against the Chilliwack Chiefs on Friday and Saturday, December 18^th and 19^th.

Wild Sneaks Past Surrey

Wenatchee, WA. – The Wenatchee Wild scored twice in the second period then slugged their way to victory over the Surrey Eagles Friday 2-1, in front of 3,312 at the Town Toyota Center.

After a scoreless first period, Wenatchee’s Mike Coyne (Buffalo, NY) scored from straight out in front at 30 seconds, assisted by Dakota Raabe (Dana Point, CA) and Aaron Murray (Chino, CA). The goal, which brought a flood of bears and other assorted stuffed animals flying onto the ice, gave the Wild a 1-0 lead. Surrey would tie it up just shy of the midway point of the period, as Kurt Black would score from Darius Davidson at 9:08, squaring the game at 1-1. Then, late in the period, Kyle Stephan (Barrie, ON) would blast a one-timer from the left circle, off assists from Bryan Yoon (Parker, CO) and Tyler Rockwell (San Jose, CA) at 17:05. The power play goal, coming on a 4-on-3 man-advantage, gave Wenatchee a 2-1 lead through 40 minutes.

There was no scoring in the third but plenty of physical play, keeping the fans on the edge of their seats throughout. Both teams would have solid scoring opportunities but all were turned away and the Wild held on for the 2-1 victory.

Wenatchee outshot the Eagles 44-25 on the night. Garrett Nieto (Yorba Linda, CA) made 24 stops for the Wild, while Justin Laforest had 42 saves for the Eagles. The Wild went 1-for-5 on the power play and 3-of-3 on the penalty kill. “It’s nice to end up on the right side of that one.” said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach/General Manager Bliss Littler. “You could see Surrey got pretty charged up playing in front of a big crowd, something that they don’t get at home, so I think we got their best effort and their goaltender played awful well. I think that kept the score close the first 30 minutes, then I thought the last 30 minutes was a bit of a war. We lost a couple of kids for fighting, they lost a couple of kids. It was good to see our team grind one out.”

With the win, Wenatchee improves to 18-8-2-2 on the season, the Eagles fall to 5-24-0-0. The Wild opens a stretch of four in a row on the road on Saturday, December 5^th at the Trail Smoke Eaters. Faceoff is set for 7:30pm PST.

Wenatchee, WA. – The Wenatchee Wild broke open a scoreless tie with three second period goals, on their way to a 4-1 victory over the Surrey Eagles Thursday, in front of 2,286 at the Town Toyota Center.

After a scoreless first period, Wenatchee’s Kyle Stephan (Barrie, ON) scored from the right circle, off assists from Tyler Rockwell (San Jose, CA) and Mike Coyne (Buffalo, NY) at 5:46, giving the Wild a 1-0 lead. They would increase the lead on a Troy Conzo (Nesconset, NY) goal at 13:39. August Von Ungern (Boise, ID) drew the lone assist, putting Wenatchee on top, 2-0. Then, just 44 seconds later, Rockwell scored from the left circle, assisted by Joe Drabin (Rochester, NY) and Coyne at 14:23, putting the Wild on top, 3-0 after two.

Wenatchee would score once in the third. Conzo lit the lamp on the power play, assisted by Drabin and Brendan Harris (Las Vegas, NV) at 16:56, upping the lead to 4-0.  The Wild’s shutout string against Surrey would end at 163:46, as Kurt Black tapped one home from Donovan Ott and Paul McAvoy at 17:23, making the final score 4-1 in favor of Wenatchee.

The Wild outshot the Eagles 51-20 on the night, tying their season high for shots on goal in the process. Chase Perry (Andover, MN) made 19 stops for Wenatchee, while Justin Laforest had 47 saves for Surrey. The Wild went 1-for-6 on the power play and 4-of-4 on the penalty kill. “Overall, it was a good effort.” said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach/General Manager Bliss Littler. “I thought the first two periods, I liked our work ethic, I liked the pace we played at. I don’t think there wasn’t much not to like. I think their goaltender played well, overall I thought it was a good effort on our part”

With the win, Wenatchee improves to 17-8-2-2 on the season, the Eagles fall to 5-23-0-0. The Wild concludes their 4-game home stand Friday, December 4^th against the Surrey Eagles at the Town Toyota Center. Faceoff is set for 7:05pm PST.

Perry Makes College Commitment

Wenatchee, WA. – The Wenatchee Wild is pleased to announce that goaltender Chase Perry has committed to play college hockey for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, beginning with the 2016-2017 season.

Perry, 19, a fifth-round pick of Detroit in the 2014 NHL draft, is in his second season with Wenatchee and has 12 wins in 23 starts this season, with a 2.43 goals against average. “I am proud to announce the next chapter of my hockey career at RPI.” Perry said. “I know RPI will be a great opportunity for me and for my development. Coach Appert and his staff have a great program and I am looking forward to my next three years at RPI to be part of a team that hopefully contends for a national championship.

I am thankful for great teammates and coaches here in Wenatchee, my coaches who have helped me through the years, and my family and friends that have helped me to get where I am today.”

RPI, nationally known for offering degrees in 145 programs at the bachelor’s, masters and doctoral levels, was founded in 1824 and is the oldest technological research university in the English-speaking world. The hockey team is a member of the East Coast Athletic Conference. They won national championships in 1954 and 1985.
