Swift Current, SK - Just one night after giving up seven in a pasting at Moose Jaw, the Tri-City Americans, behind the strong goaltending of Beck Warm, rebounded for an impressive 3-0 win over the Swift Current Broncos Wednesday night, before 2,210 fans at the Innovation Credit Union i-plex in Swift Current, Saskatchewan.
After struggling to get anything going the night before at Moose Jaw, the Americans played air tight defense, allowing a season-low four shots against in the first period, while scoring a pair of goals to grab the lead. Kyle Olson scored his 4th of the year, off an assist from Isaac Johnson at 5:20, giving Tri-City a 1-0 lead. Then, they would increase the lead late on a goal at 19:15 by solo effort import Krystof Hrabik, putting the Ams up 2-0 after one.
The two teams would then battle the rest of the way, with solid goalkeeping at both ends turning away numerous scoring opportunities, before Tri-City's Johnson would slide an unassisted goal into an empty net at 19:57, giving the Americans the final victory margin of 3-0.
Beck Warm, playing for the 17th time in 18 games for Tri-City. made 24 saves for his second career WHL shutout. Joel Hofer was solid in net for the Broncos, holding his team in the contest throughout the night with 20 saves. The Americans were 0-for-3 on the power play and 4-of-4 on the penalty kill.
Tri-City, now 12-6-0-0 on the season, sits third in the U.S. Division and now prepares for a Friday contest with the CHL's top team, the Prince Albert Raiders, now 18-1-0-0, after Wednesday's 2-0 win over Medicine Hat. Face-off at the Art Hauser Centre in Prince Albert, SK is set for 5:00pm PST. Craig West will have the live play-by-play on Newstalk 870 KFLD and online at newstalk870.am beginning at 4:45pm Friday. The Americans then wrap up their massive 11-game road swing on Saturdat at Saskatoon, then return home to Toyota Center November 23rd, to face the Kamloops Blazers.
