Road streak snapped in loss to Pats

Regina, Saskatchewan - Regina scored twice in the opening 2:36 Friday night and never looked back, skating away from the Tri-City Americans for a 5-1 win, before 4,759 at the Brandt Centre in Regina.

The Pats got on the board just 30 seconds into the contest on Austin Pratt's 9th goal of the season, assisted by Nick Henry and Aaron Hyman, giving Regina a 1-0 lead. Then, just over two minutes later, the lead grew thanks to a goal by Pats Captain Jake Leschyshyn, off assists by Henry and Hyman. The power play marker, coming at 2:36, gave Regina a 2-0 lead after one.

The home team grew the lead in the second. Marco Creta broke through for his first goal of the season, with the lone helper coming from Riley Krane at 13:28, expending the lead to 3-0. It became 4-0, as Leschyshyn scored again, his 11th of the season, assisted by Austin Pratt and Henry at 15:53, making it 4-0. Tri-City finally got on the board with a power play goal, as Parker AuCoin scored his 11th of the campaign, with assists going to Nolan Yaremko and Kyle Olson at 18:56, trimming the deficit to 4-1 after two.

The only goal of the third was the third of the night for Leschyshyn, giving him 12 on the season. Henry helped out with his fourth assist of the night and Hyman his third at 7:27 and the Pats skated it home from there, winning 5-1.

The Americans out-shot Regina 40-33 on the night. Max Paddock had a strong night for the Pats with 39 saves, while Beck Warm made 28 saves for Tri-City. Regina was 2-for-5 on the power play and 7-of-8 on the penalty kill.

The win gives the Pats a record of 6-12-0-0, ahead of a Saturday home contest against the Swift Current Broncos. The Americans, now 10-5-0-0, had their six-game road win streak snapped in the loss. They play again on Sunday against the Brandon Wheat Kings at the Westoba Place in Brandon, with face-off set for 12:30pm PST. The live broadcast on Newstalk 870 KFLD and newstalk870.am with Craig West calling the action, gets underway at 12:15pm Sunday.
