Western Hockey League roundup for Friday, October 25th, 2019













Edmonton Oil Kings 4, Medicine Hat Tigers 2

Edmonton's 1 goal 1st period and 2 goal 2nd period were the difference. Riley Sawchuk scored twice for Edmonton, Ethan McIndoe and Carter Souch also scored, Todd Scott made 42 saves. For Medicine Hat, Daniel Baker and Brett Kemp scored the goals, Mats Sogaard had 35 saves. Attendance at Rogers Place was 5,303.

Lethbridge Hurricane 5, Brandon Wheat Kings 2

Dino Kambeitz, Jett Jones, Dylan Cozens scored in the first two periods to stake Lethbridge to a 3-0 lead. Then, after Brandon goals by Nolan Ritchie and Cole Reinhardt brought the Wheaties within 3-2, Lethbridge goals in the final minute by Oliver Okullar and Joe Arntsen clinched the Hurricanes win. Carl Tetachuk drew the goal tending assignment for Lethbridge and made 25 saves. For Brandon, Ethan Kruger made 30 saves. Attendance at Enmax Centre was 3,733.

Calgary Hitmen 4, Moose Jaw Warriors 2

2 goals each in the 1st and 3rd periods boosted Calgary to the win before 3,047 at Mosaic Place. Hitmen scorers were Riley Stotts, Josh Prokop, Jonas Peterek and Carson Focht. Brayden Peters made 20 saves for Calgary. For Moose Jaw, Braden Miller and Owen Hardy scored the goals, Bailey Brkin had 22 saves.

Seattle Thunderbirds 5, Red Deer Rebels 4 (SO)

Seattle's Simon Kubicek scored in the third round of the shootout, to boost the T-Birds to the win, before 3,933 at Westerner Park Centrium. Regulation goals for Seattle were scored by Jared Davidson, Andrej Kukuca, Luke Batemen and Henrik Rybinski. Roddy Ross made 32 saves. For the Rebels, Zak Smith scored a pair of 3rd period goals to force overtime, Ethan Sakowich scored in the 1st period, Christoffer Sedoff in the 2nd. Ethan Anders made 36 saves.

Saskatoon Blades 8, Winnipeg Jets 3

A 5 goal second period for the Blades was the difference, with 3,605 in attendance at SaskTel Centre. Chase Wouters had a hat trick for Saskatoon, Eric Florchuk, Zach Huber, Jayden Wiens, Libor Zabransky and Tristen Robins also scored goals, Nolan Maier made 20 saves. For Winnipeg, Connor McClennon, Jackson Leppard and Brad Ginnell scored goals, Jesse Makaj and Gage Alexander combined for 21 saves.

Portland Winterhawks 6, Spokane Chiefs 3

A 3 goal 3rd period was the difference in Portland's road win, before 4,215 at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena. Cross Hanus and Jake Gricius both scored twice, Johnny Ludvig and Seth Jarvis on a penalty shot also scored for the Hawks, Joel Hofer made 32 saves. For the Chiefs, Filip Kral, Cordel Larson and Luke Toporowski scored, Campbell Arnold had 27 saves.

Prince Albert Raiders 3, Tri-City Americans 2 (SO)

Aliaksel Protas scored at 19:05 of the 3rd period to force overtime and Ilya Usau scored in the shootout to win it for the Raiders. Tyson Laventure also scored in regulation, Boston Bilous made 25 saves.Kyle Olson and Sasha Mutala scored for the Americans, Beck Warm made 46 saves.

Everett Silvertips 3, Vancouver Giants 2

Everett's 2 2nd period goals were the difference in the win, before 3,476 at Langley Events Centre. After Dylan Plouffe and Cole Shepard scored to stake the Giants to a 2-0 lead late in the 1st, the Silvertips responded with a goal in the final minute of the 1st by Martin Fasko-Rudas and 2nd period goals by Wyatte Wylie and Jackson Berezowski to win it. Dustin Wolf had 34 saves for Everett, David Tendeck 19 for the Giants.

Kamloops Blazers 2, Victoria Royals 1

Ryan Hughes and Inaki Baragano scored for the Blazers to pick up the road win, with attendance of 3,847 at Save-On-Foods Memorial Arena. River Fahey opened the night's scoring for Victoria. In goal, Dylan Garand made 29 saves for Kamloops, Brock Gould made 25 saves for Victoria.
