Wolves Take Three

Wenatchee, WA. – The Wenatchee Wolves continued to roll through the NPHL, winning three times this past weekend. The Wolves beat the Eugene Generals 4-2 on Thursday, January 28^th, and then topped the Tri-Cities Outlaws twice, 10-2 on Friday, January 29^th and 9-4 on Sunday, January 31^st.

On Thursday in Eugene, Will Connors (Richland, WA) scored twice, Hunter Alden (Walla Walla, WA) added 3 assists and Max Flynn (Wenatchee, WA) made 22 stops, leading the Wolves to the 4-2 win over the Generals. Wenatchee went 1-for-6 on the power play and 2-of-2 on the penalty kill.

On Friday in Kennewick, the Wolves skated to a 10-2 win over Tri-Cities. Coleton Booth (Delta, BC) scored 5 goals, Denton Hymer (Wenatchee, WA) and Tom Ignatovich (Seattle, WA) scored a goal and 3 assists each and Jacob Bennett (Snohomish, WA) added a goal and 2 assists. Bronson Moore (Kennewick, WA) made 22 saves for Wenatchee, who went 3-for-5 on the power play and 5-of-6 on the penalty kill.

On Sunday in Wenatchee, it was a 9-4 win for the Wolves over the Outlaws. Richie Stickle (Healy, AK) scored 4 goals, Andrew Moessner (Omaha, NE) had a goal and 2 assists and Flynn made 15 saves. Wenatchee went 2-for-6 on the power play and 2-of-4 on the penalty kill.

“It was a good weekend.” said Wenatchee Wolves Head Coach Ryan McKelvie. “A lot of travel and to be able to win all three games on the weekend, I thought our guys played well and worked hard. I’m proud of the way we played all weekend.”

With the three wins, the Wolves improve to 30-1-0-0, 13 points ahead of second-place Bellingham. Next up for Wenatchee is a home-and-home set with the West Sound Warriors, Friday, February 5^th in Bremerton and Sunday, February 7^th, 2:35pm at the Community Rink at the Town Toyota Center.

Wild Overcomes Deficit To Beat Langley

Langley, BC. – The Wenatchee Wild finished their Mainland Division road swing in impressive fashion Saturday night, coming from behind to defeat the Langley Rivermen 5-2 in front of 1,530 fans at the Langley Events Centre.

Despite some solid play in the first period, the Wild found themselves on the short end of a 2-0 deficit. Justin Szeto scored from Ryan Barrow at 9:34, and then Jason O’Neill scored from Barrow and Jordan Schneider at 16:35, giving Langley a 2-0 lead after one.

Wenatchee would begin the comeback in the second period. Kyle Stephen (Barrie, ON) roofed a shot to the glove side, assisted by Brendan Harris (Las Vegas, NV) and Konsta Jaske (Sammamish, WA) at 1:27 and then Dakota Raabe (Dana Point, CA) banged one home in the goalmouth, assisted by August Von Ungern (Boise, ID) and Harris at 5:17, tying the game 2-2 through 40 minutes.

The Wild would complete the comeback in the third. Blake Christensen (Lauderhill, FL) cut from the slot to the right circle, where he would fire home a wrister. Daniel Nachbaur (Seattle, WA) assisted at 2:03, putting Wenatchee on top, 3-2. Then, just over a minute later, Von Ungern would score on a deflection, assisted by Colin Burston (Winnipeg, MN) and Austin Chavez (Corona, CA) at 3:04, giving the Wild a 4-2 lead. Mike Coyne (Buffalo, NY) would finish off the scoring with a tap-in goal, off assists from Burston and Jaske at 8:04 and Wenatchee would go on from there for the 5-2 win.

The Wild outshot the Rivermen 29-25 on the night. Chase Perry (Andover, MN) made 23 saves for Wenatchee, while Nickolas Trenciansky had 24 stops for Langley. The Wild went 1-for-5 on the power play and 4-of-4 on the penalty kill. “Overall, I thought it was a pretty good effort,” said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach/General Manager Bliss Littler. “for our third game in four days. I thought our energy level was pretty good. We got down 2-nothing, scored five unanswered. Chase Perry played very well to keep it right where it was at. I thought we got our feet going, I thought we made some plays, so it’s nice to beat a team that we’re battling for that second spot.”

With the win, Wenatchee improves to 27-15-2-3 on the season; the Rivermen fall to 26-18-2-1. The Wild returns home to host Langley for a pair of games on Friday and Saturday, February 5^th and 6^th, 7:05pm both nights at the Town Toyota Center.

Wild Edges Surrey

Surrey, BC. – The Wenatchee Wild continued their Mainland Division road swing Friday night, coming from behind to defeat the Surrey Eagles 4-3 at the South Surrey Arena.

The game started out as a tight checking affair, before Matt Baker (Midhurst, ON) lit the lamp at 9:51. The unassisted goal gave the Wild a 1-0 lead after one.

Surrey would tie the game in the second. Jeffrey Stewart scored, assisted by Nick Azar at 6:19 and it was 1-1 after two.

In the third, it took Surrey just 13 seconds to grab the lead. Jaxon Joseph scored off the rush, with Azar drawing the assist, putting the Eagles up 2-1. However, Wenatchee would answer with three straight goals to go back on top. August Von Ungern (Boise, ID) scored from Baker and Daniel Nachbaur (Seattle, WA) at 6:30, then Von Ungern scored from Baker at 6:50, giving the Wild a 3-2 lead. Wenatchee appeared to seal the deal late, as Brendan Harris (Las Vegas, NV) scored an unassisted, shorthanded, empty net goal at 18:52, putting the Wild on top, 4-2. But, as it turned out, that goal was very important. Surrey, who remained on the power play, got a goal from Joseph, assisted by Kurt Black and Austin Anselmo at 19:27. The goal brought the Eagles within one, but they could get no closer, as Wenatchee held on for the 4-3 win.

The Wild outshot Surrey 27-20 on the night. Chase Perry (Andover, MN) made 17 saves for Wenatchee, while Justin Laforest had 23 stops for the Eagles. The Wild went 0-for-4 on the power play and 5-of-6 on the penalty kill. “It’s nice to get a greasy win, when we definitely didn’t play very well tonight.” said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach/General Manager Bliss Littler. “Definitely had too many passengers. Lucky the bus wasn’t one of those Flintstone busses, where you have to use your legs, because we had a lot of passengers not working tonight. As a staff, we’re going to have to do better getting our guys ready to go tomorrow night. Again, big battle with Langley. Really, it’s a battle for home ice. Our next three are against Langley; we need to be ready to get that first one tomorrow.”

With the win, the Wild improves to 26-15-2-3 on the season; Surrey falls to 6-37-0-2. Wenatchee stays out on the road for one more game, Saturday, January 30^th, at the Langley Rivermen, before returning home to host Langley for a pair of games on Friday and Saturday, February 5^th and 6^th, 7:05pm both nights at the Town Toyota Center.

Wild Snaps Skid With Win At Coquitlam

Wenatchee, WA. – The Wenatchee Wild went on the road Wednesday night and snapped a three-game losing streak with a 4-2 win over the Coquitlam Express at the Poirer Sports and Leisure Centre.

Wenatchee outshot the Express 10-3 in the first period, but neither team was able to dent the twine, as the first period ended up scoreless.

In the second, the Wild would finally score on an Alex Bates (Highlands Ranch, CO) shot through a screen from the left point. Logan Milliken (Canmore, AB) and Matt Baker (Midhurst, ON) assisted at 8:20, giving Wenatchee a 1-0 lead after 40 minutes.

The Wild expanded the lead in the third. Charlie Combs (St. Louis, MO) notched a power play goal, off assists from Bryan Yoon (Parker, CO) and Mike Coyne (Buffalo, NY) at 4:26, making it a 2-0 Wenatchee lead. The Wild would make it 3-0 at 12:38, as Dakota Raabe (Dana Point, CA) scored from Blake Christensen (Lauderhill, FL) and August Von Ungern (Boise, ID) and Wenatchee was firmly in command. However, penalties would cost the Wild, as Coquitlam would score a pair of power play goals. Colton Kerfoot scored a 5-on-3 power play goal from Cameron Bertsch and Jackson Cressey, narrowing the Wenatchee lead to 3-1, at the 15:47 mark. Then, an Austin McIlmurray 5-on-4 power play goal, assisted by Cressey and Kerfoot at 16:30, drew the Express to within one, at 3-2. But, a Coyne goal on a backhander in tight, assisted by Colin Burston (Winnipeg, MB) at 18:02 put the game away, giving Wenatchee the 4-2 win.

The Wild outshot Coquitlam 44-14 on the night. Garrett Nieto (Yorba Linda, CA) made 12 saves for Wenatchee, while Tyger Howat had 40 stops for the Express. The Wild went 1-for-4 on the power play and 4-of-6 on the penalty kill. “It was nice to score four goals, for the most part I think we controlled most of the play.” said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach/General Manager Bliss Littler. “Felt good about that. Need to pack the two points on the bus and get ready for Surrey.”

With the win, the Wild improve to 25-15-2-3 on the season, Coquitlam falls to 20-21-4-1. Wenatchee stays out on the road to play at Surrey on Friday, January 29^th and then Saturday, January 30^th, at Langley.

Harris Make College Commitment

Wenatchee, WA. – The Wenatchee Wild is pleased to announce that forward Brendan Harris has committed to play college hockey for Bemidji State University.

Harris, a 19 year old, 5’7” 160 pound left handed shooting forward from Las Vegas, Nevada, is in his third season with the Wild. He has career totals of 31 goals, 73 assists and 60 penalty minutes in 121 games, plus another 3 goals, 5 assists and 2 penalty minutes in 15 career playoff games. “I’m very proud to announce the next chapter of my hockey career at Bemidji State.” Harris said. “Very thankful to have such great coaches and teammates. Couldn’t have gotten that scholarship without them. I’m very confident that the coaching at Bemidji will help me have a successful college career. This is a very exciting time for me and my family and I’m happy to have done this in a Wenatchee Wild jersey.”

Bemidji State University competes in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. The school, located in Bemidji, Minnesota, was founded in 1919. The Beavers have competed in four NCAA Division 1 tournaments, making it to the Frozen Four in 2009. As an NAIA member school, the Beavers won nine national titles.

Wolves Sweep Seattle

Wenatchee, WA. – The Wenatchee Wolves continued their strong play in the NPHL this past weekend, sweeping a pair of games from the Seattle Ravens, 14-1 on Saturday, January 23^rd and 7-0 on Sunday, January 24th.

On Saturday, January 23^rd in Kent, the Wolves rolled to the decisive victory, 14-1 over Seattle. Wenatchee scored 5 in the first, 5 in the second and 4 more in the third. Griffin Wiencek (Sherwood, OR) tallied 3 goals and 2 assists, Will Connors (Richland, WA) had 2 goals and 5 assists, Thomas Hendry (Salt Lake City, UT) and Denton Hymer (Wenatchee, WA) each had 2 goals and 1 assist, Coleton Booth (Delta, BC) scored twice, Hunter Alden had a goal and 4 assists, while Anders Johnson (Salt Lake City, UT) had a goal and 2 assists. Max Roth (Wilmette, IL) chipped in with a goal and an assist. The Wolves outshot the Ravens 65-10 on the night, while going 5-for-7 on the power play and 3-of-4 on the penalty kill. Max Flynn (Wenatchee, WA) stopped 9 shots.

On Sunday, January 24^th in Wenatchee, the Wolves outshot Seattle 59-10, en route to the 7-0 victory. Hendry had 2 goals and an assist, Alden and Wiencek had a goal and 2 assists each, Hymer and Booth added a goal and an assist each and Brayden Durante (New Westminster, BC) added a goal. Bronson Moore (Kennewick, WA) made 10 saves for his sixth shutout of the season. Wenatchee went 0-for-4 on the power play and 1-of-1 on the penalty kill.

“The guys played well all weekend.” said Wenatchee Wolves Head Coach Ryan McKelvie. “We’ll look to build off of that headed into a three-game road weekend.”

The Wolves, who have clinched a playoff spot, are now 27-1-0-0 in NPHL play, 11 points ahead of second place Bellingham. Next on the schedule for Wenatchee is a game in Eugene against the Generals on Thursday, January 28^th, followed by a home-and-home series with the Tri-Cities Outlaws, Friday, January 29^th in Kennewick and Sunday, January 31^st in Wenatchee at 2:35pm.

Wild Push Vees But Lose By One

Wenatchee, WA. – The Wenatchee Wild battled hard Saturday night, but it was the Penticton Vees who came away with the hard-fought victory, 3-2, in front of 3,969 fans at the Town Toyota Center.

Penticton scored the only goal of the first period, as Scott Conway skated home a loose puck and scored unassisted just 1:08 into the contest, giving the Vees a 1-0 lead after one.

In the second, Penticton would expand the lead. Colton Poolman scored an unassisted goal at 4:10 for a 2-0 lead. Shortly after, Wenatchee would get on the board, as Austin Chavez (Corona, CA) scored on a lucky bounce off a shot from the left point. Mike Coyne (Buffalo, NY) assisted at 6:55 to draw the Wild within one, at 2-1. However, an Owen Sillinger goal, assisted by Demico Hannoun and Tyson Jost at 15:09, gave the Vees a 3-1 lead after two.

Wenatchee continued to press the attack in the third period, getting a goal from Charlie Combs (St. Louis, MO), off assists from Brendan Harris (Las Vegas, NV) and Dakota Raabe (Dana Point, CA) at 2:30, drawing the Wild back to within one, at 3-2. However, they could get no closer and Penticton held on for the 3-2 win.

Wenatchee outshot the Vees 40-25 on the night. Chase Perry (Andover, MN) and Garrett Nieto (Yorba Linda, CA) combined for 22 saves for the Wild, while Anthony Brodeur had 38 stops for Penticton. Wenatchee went 0-for-3 on the power play and 3-of-3 on the penalty kill. “Well, we’re not into any moral victories, but it’s a big improvement from ten days ago.” said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach/General Manager Bliss Littler. “I thought we played awful well tonight. Played real well actually. We had three pipes in the third period, I was happy with how we played. We’re getting better.”

With the win, the Vees improve to 39-5-0-1 on the season, Wenatchee slips to 24-15-2-3. The Wild play three on the road next week: Wednesday, January 27^th at Coquitlam, Friday, January 29^th at Surrey and Saturday, January 30^th, at Langley.

Wild Drops Close One At Coquitlam

Wenatchee, WA. – The Wenatchee Wild had a one-goal lead through 40 minutes Friday night but couldn’t hold it, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Coquitlam Express at the Poirer Sports and Leisure Centre.

The Wild created numerous scoring chances in the first period, outshooting Coquitlam 17-6, but the game remained scoreless through 20 minutes.

In the second, Wenatchee would grab the lead on a Brendan Harris (Las Vegas, NV) goal. Harris would work his way from the right side into the high slot, where he would gun home a wrister, assisted by Austin Chavez (Corona, CA) at 2:15, giving the Wild a 1-0 lead after two.

Wenatchee continued to control things in the third, but it was the Express that would light the lamp twice in the period. Austin McIlmurray scored from Colton Kerfoot and Charlie Barrow on the power play at 7:46, tying the game 1-1. Then, at 17:28, Jackson Cressey scored on a mad scramble in close, assisted by Kerfoot. The goal stood up as the game winner, as Coquitlam would triumph, 2-1.

The Wild outshot the Express 41-19 on the night. Garrett Nieto (Yorba Linda, CA) made 17 saves for Wenatchee, while Lawson Fenton had 40 stops for Coquitlam. The Wild went 0-for-2 on the power play and 3-of-4 on the penalty kill. “Obviously, we did a lot of things right tonight.” said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach/General Manager Bliss Littler. “We need to figure out a way to make our chances count more. We had 6 to 8 partial breakaways or attempts where it was just us and the goaltender and the goaltender won the battle. We need to find a way to win those battles.”

With the win, the Express improves to 19-20-4-1 on the season, Wenatchee falls to 24-14-2-3. Wenatchee returns home to host the Penticton Vees on Saturday, January 23^rd at the Town Toyota Center.

Wolves Take Two From Bellingham

Wenatchee, WA. – The Wenatchee Wolves were in action this past weekend at The Rink at the Town Toyota Center in Wenatchee and topped the Bellingham Blazers twice, 4-3 in overtime on Sunday, January 17^th and 2-0 on Monday, January 18th.

On Sunday, January 17^th, the Wolves were down 2-1 after two, but got a goal late in regulation from Will Connors (Richland, WA) to force overtime. Then, not quite halfway through the extra session, Connors scored to win it for Wenatchee. Connors scored twice, Raymond Fleming (Palo Alto, CA) and Hunter Alden (Walla Walla, WA) also scored for the Wolves, who got 24 saves from Max Flynn (Wenatchee, WA). Wenatchee was 0-for-8 on the power play and 5-of-5 on the penalty kill.

On Monday, January 18^th, the Wolves blanked the Blazers 2-0. Jack Newhouse (Anchorage, AK) and Connors on the power play scored the goals; Bronson Moore (Kennewick, WA) made 13 saves. Wenatchee was 1-for-4 on the power play and 6-of-6 on the penalty kill.

Speaking after Monday’s game, Wolves Head Coach Ryan McKelvie said “I thought our guys battled hard today. We got a lot of good quality scoring chances on net. I thought their goaltender played well and so did ours. Like always it was a good, competitive game with Bellingham and we were fortunate to come out on top.”  

The Wolves are now 25-1-0-0 in NPHL play, 7 points ahead of second place Bellingham. Next up is a home-and-home series with the Seattle Ravens, Saturday, January 23^rd in Kent and Sunday, January 24^th in Wenatchee at 2:35pm.

Wild Loses To Merritt

Wenatchee, WA. – The Wenatchee Wild created numerous scoring chances but weren’t able to convert enough of them, losing to the Merritt Centennials 5-2 Saturday night, in front of 3,075 fans at the Town Toyota Center.

Merritt scored twice late in the first period. Brett Jewell scored from Tyrell Buckley shorthanded at 16:19 and Michael Faulkner scored at 19:58 from Colin Grannary, giving the Centennials a 2-0 lead after one.

Wenatchee scored a shorthanded goal of their own early in the second. Troy Conzo (Nesconset, NY), off an assist by Blake Christensen (Lauderhill, FL) at 5:03, cutting the deficit to 2-1. However, Merritt scored twice more later in the middle frame. Mitch Lipon scored, assisted by Nick Fiorentino and Nick Fidanza at 6:04. The power play goal put the Cents up 3-1. The Merritt lead grew at 13:49, as Tyler Ward scored from Nick Jermain, putting the Centennials up 4-1 after two.

Brandon Puricelli (St. Louis, MO) tucked home a backhander in tight early in the third to get the Wild back in it. Bryan Yoon (Parker, CO) assisted at 2:27, cutting the Merritt lead to 4-2. The Cents would protect that lead, adding an empty net goal by Jermain at 18:18. Grannary and Fiorentino drew the assists and Merritt would go on to the 5-2 win.

Wenatchee outshot Merritt 36-16 on the night. Chase Perry (Andover, MN) made 11 saves for the Wild, while Cole Kehler had 34 stops for the Centennials. Wenatchee went 0-for-4 on the power play and 1-of-2 on the penalty kill. Each team allowed a shorthanded goal. “We definitely had enough chances to win.” said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach/General Manager Bliss Littler. “I thought for the most part we outplayed them badly tonight. But it’s a lesson we’re not learning, that you have to make teams work for their goals. Three breakaways against tonight are too many. We outshoot a team and out chance them as badly as we did tonight, there’s no way you can lose a hockey game like that. We found ways to get beat tonight. So, we need to go to work on Monday.”

With the win, Merritt improves to 15-26-3-0 on the season, the Wild slips to 24-13-2-3. Wenatchee travels to Coquitlam for a game on Friday, January 22^nd, before returning home to host the Penticton Vees on Saturday, January 23^rd.

Wenatchee, WA. – The Wenatchee Wild broke open a scoreless tie with 3 goals in the second period and 4 more in the third, skating to a 7-2 win over the Nanaimo Clippers in front of 3,318 fans at the Town Toyota Center.

After a scoreless first period, the Wild took the lead on a Kyle Stephan (Barrie, ON) power play goal, assisted by Mike Coyne (Buffalo, NY) and Dakota Raabe (Dana Point, CA) at 6:04, giving Wenatchee a 1-0 lead. However, the advantage didn’t last long, as Sheldon Rempal scored for the Clippers from Matt Hoover 5 seconds later at 6:09, tying the game 1-1. Seven minutes later, the Wild regained the lead, as Brendan Harris (Las Vegas, NV) scored from Colin Burston (Winnipeg, MB) and Charlie Combs (St. Louis, MO) at 13:07, giving Wenatchee a 2-1 lead. The advantage grew in the final minute of the middle period, as Combs scored from Harris and Burston at 19:20, giving the Wild a 3-1 lead through two.

In the third, Raabe scored an unassisted shorthanded for Wenatchee, putting the Wild up 4-1 at 1:04. Three minutes later, Rempal scored again for Nanaimo, assisted by Taylor Karel at 4:08, narrowing the margin to 4-2. Wenatchee would take over from there though. Matt Baker (Midhurst, ON) scored from Harris and Burston at 14:02, with the power play goal giving the Wild a 5-2 lead. Then, in the final minute, Wenatchee would strike twice. Combs scored from Burston at 19:05 and Baker scored from Joe Drabin (Rochester, NY) at 19:29, propelling the Wild to the 7-2 win.

Wenatchee outshot the Clippers 41-21 on the night. Garrett Nieto (Yorba Linda, CA) made 19 saves for the Wild, while Evan Johnson made 34 saves for Nanaimo. Wenatchee went 2-for-5 on the power play and 2-of-2 on the penalty kill. “It’s a good rebound for us after Wednesday’s effort.” said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach/General Manager Bliss Littler. “Felt good about it all the way around. We had a couple of power play goals, did a good job on the penalty kill. Good goaltending and up front all four lines contributed and I felt our D make significant improvement from Wednesday night.

Wild Stopped By Vees

Penticton, BC. – The Penticton Vees rode a 3-goal second period to victory Wednesday night, beating the Wenatchee Wild 6-1, in front of 2,575 at the South Okanagan Events Centre.

The Vees got the opening goal 4:12 into the contest off the stick of Chris Gerrie, assisted by Nick Jones and Luke Voltin, putting Penticton on top, 1-0. Halfway through the period, the Wild would tie it up. Mike Coyne (Buffalo, NY) banged home a loose puck in a goal mouth scramble, assisted by Kyle Stephan (Barrie, ON) and Bryan Yoon (Parker, CO). The power play goal, scored at the 10:00 mark, tied the game 1-1 after one.

The Vees would take over in the second. Scott Conway scored from Seamus Donohue and Anthony Brodeur at 4:10, putting Penticton on top, 2-1. Then, Owen Sillinger scored from Dixon Bowen and Easton Brodzinski at 8:35, putting the Vees on top, 3-1. Penticton would hang one more in the middle period, as Sillinger would score from Bowen at 11:26, for a 4-1 Vees lead through two.

In the third, Conway scored again, assisted by Jones and Dante Fabbro on the power play at 6:50, putting Penticton ahead 5-1. The Vees would round out the scoring with a Darius Davidson goal, assisted by Conway and Griffin Mendel at 14:54, giving Penticton the 6-1 win.

The Vees outshot Wenatchee 38-32 on the night. Chase Perry (Andover, MN) made 32 saves for the Wild, while Brodeur made 31 saves for Penticton. Wenatchee went 1-for-2 on the power play and 2-of-3 on the penalty kill. “Tonight, Penticton was better than us at everything.” said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach/General Manager Bliss Littler. “From coaching to getting to loose pucks to offence to defense to want to to will to. We have a lot of work to do in the next 10 days before they come into our building.”

Wolves Skate At Final NAPHL Showcase

Wenatchee, WA. – The Wenatchee Wolves were in action this past weekend at the final NAPHL showcase tournament at Troy, Michigan, going 2-3 to close out their NAPHL schedule.

On Thursday, January 7^th, the Wolves opened up showcase play, dropping a 4-2 decision to Pursuit of Excellence. Wenatchee got a pair of goals from Richie Stickle (Healy, AK) and 25 saves from Max Flynn (Wenatchee, WA), but weren’t able to secure the victory. The Wolves were 1-for-2 on the power play and 8-of-8 on the penalty kill.

Later that day, Wenatchee lost to the New Jersey Jr. Titans, 2-0. Bronson Moore (Kennewick, WA) made 27 saves for the Wolves, who went 0-for-6 on the power play and 9-of-9 on the penalty kill.

On Friday, January 8^th, Wenatchee topped the St. Louis Selects 4-1. Will Connors (Richland, WA) paced the attack with 2 goals and an assist, Stickle added a goal and an assist and Hunter Alden (Walla Walla, WA) chipped in with a pair of assists. Flynn made 32 saves for the Wolves, who went 2-for-11 on the power play and 5-of-6 on the penalty kill.

Wenatchee edged the Pikes Peak Miners 1-0 on Saturday, January 9^th. Connors scored a power play goal late in the third period for the Wolves, who got 22 saves from Moore. Wenatchee went 1-for-6 on the power play and 6-of-6 on the penalty kill.

The Wolves wrapped up showcase play on Sunday, January 10^th, with a 2-0 loss to the Philadelphia Little Flyers. Flynn made 14 saves for Wenatchee, which went 0-for-10 on the power play and 8-of-8 on the penalty kill.

“Although we would have liked to win a couple more games,” said Wenatchee Wolves Head Coach Ryan McKelvie, “I thought our performance showed just how far our team has come since the beginning of the season. In our last three games of the showcase we were able to have success against quality opponents and many of our individual players figured out how to produce at that level. Our focus is always on the process of getting better and maximizing our performance and it was really nice to see the progress that this group of players has made so far this season.”

The Wolves finish their NAPHL schedule with a record of 10-14-1. They return to NPHL play this weekend with a pair of games against the Bellingham Blazers at the Community Rink at the Town Toyota Center on Sunday, January 17^th at 7:35pm and Monday, January 18^th at 2:35pm. Wenatchee leads Bellingham by 4 points in the race for first in the NPHL.

Wild Drop Contest To Silverbacks

Wenatchee, WA. – Salmon Arm invaded the Town Toyota Center Friday night and came away with the win, knocking off the Wenatchee Wild 4-0, in front of 3,744 fans.

The Silverbacks scored twice in the first period. Carson Bolduc scored an unassisted goal at 5:12, putting the visitors up 1-0. The lead grew 3 minutes later, as Aaron Aragon scored from Taro Hirose and Phil Middleton at 8:19, giving Salmon Arm a 2-0 lead after one.

After a scoreless second period, the Silverbacks would score twice more in the third. Bolduc scored his second of the night at 3:26, assisted by Colton Thibault, for a 3-0 lead. Then late in the contest, Cameron Trott scored from Elijiah Barriga and Jared Turcotte. The goal, coming at the 18:32 mark, gave Salmon Arm the 4-0 win.

Wenatchee outshot the Silverbacks 51-31 on the night. Chase Perry (Andover, MN) and Garrett Nieto (Yorba Linda, CA) combined to make 27 saves for the Wild, while Angus Redmond made 51 saves for the Silverbacks. Wenatchee went 0-for-5 on the power play and 3-of-3 on the penalty kill. “Obviously, when you put 51 shots on the net,” said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach/General Manager Bliss Littler. “their kid played well in goal but we didn’t bear down on our chances. We’ve got to play better at keeping pucks out of our net.”

With the win, Salmon Arm improves to 23-10-2-2 on the season; Wenatchee is now 23-11-2-3. The Wild next plays on Wednesday, January 13^th, when they travel to Penticton to take on the Vees. Wenatchee returns home to host the Nanaimo Clippers on Friday, January 15^th and Merritt Centennials on Saturday, January 16^th, 7:05pm both nights at the Town Toyota Center.

Wild Top Chiefs In Overtime

Wenatchee, WA. – A Mike Coyne (Buffalo, NY) goal in the opening minute of overtime Sunday night boosted the Wenatchee Wild to a 3-2 win over the Chilliwack Chiefs, in front of 2,213 fans at the Town Toyota Center.

Chilliwack led 1-0 after one, thanks to a goal by Eric Benshadle. Mitch Skapski drew the lone assist, putting the Chiefs on top after 20 minutes.

The Wild would tie it up in the second. Charlie Combs (St. Louis, MO) would score from Troy Conzo (Nesconset, NY) and Blake Christensen (Lauderhill, FL) at 5:33, knotting the game 1-1 through 40 minutes.

In the third, Wenatchee would take the lead. Colin Burston (Winnipeg, MB) scored from Logan Milliken (Canmore, AB) and Brendan Harris (Las Vegas, NV) at 1:01, putting the Wild on top, 2-1. The lead would hold until late in the period, as Chilliwack would score with their goaltender off for an extra attacker. Jordan Kawaguchi scored from Dennis Chowlowski and Austin Adam at 18:32, tying the game 2-2 and forcing overtime.

The teams squared off for a 4-on-4 overtime session and it took less than a minute for Wenatchee to win it. Kyle Stephan (Barrie, ON) dug the puck off the wall along the right side, feeding it to a wide open Coyne in the slot. Coyne would bury the backhander top shelf 46 seconds into the extra session, giving the Wild the 3-2 win.

Wenatchee outshot the Chiefs 25-22 on the night. Garrett Nieto (Yorba Linda, CA) made 20 saves for the Wild, while Aiden Pelino made 22 saves for Chilliwack. The Wild went 0-for-2 on the power play and 1-of-1 on the penalty kill. “Pretty good effort on our part tonight.” said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach/General Manager Bliss Littler. “Played a really good hockey team, I think two pretty even games both nights. To come out with four points, we feel pretty good about that effort.”

With the win, Wenatchee improves to 23-10-2-3 on the season; the Chiefs are now 24-8-4-1. The Wild next play on Friday, January 8^th, when they host the Salmon Arm Silverbacks at 7:05pm at the Town Toyota Center.
